What Is Intense Pulse Light™ (IPL)?

Intense pulse light treatment (IPL), often called “photorejuvenation,” uses brief pulses of highly concentrated light to correct pigmentation irregularities in the skin that may result from sunspots, age spots, rosacea, dilated capillaries, and UV damage.

What Is Broadband Light (BBL®)?

Broadband light therapy (BBL®) is a type of IPL that uses a wide spectrum of light wavelengths to effectively address a variety of concerns with one application.
A BBL® laser treatment is a great option for anyone dealing with photo-damaged skin, fine lines and wrinkles, or uneven skin tone. By targeting your skin with broadband light energy, we are able to improve the appearance of age spots, sun damage, and other signs of age, in addition to providing an overall improvement to skin tone and texture. Broadband Light therapy uses advanced dual-lamp technology to provide a broad range of wavelengths to target treatment for many skin conditions without the need for additional hand-pieces. At CPS, we use the Forever Young BBL® by Sciton which does just this. The Forever Young BBL® treatment is a great option.

What Skin Concerns Can IPL™ and BBL® Treat?

Intense pulsed light and broadband light therapy, in general, are especially effective for treating pigmentation irregularities and vascular lesions due to advanced dual-lamp technology to provide a broad range of wavelengths to target treatment for many skin conditions without the need for additional hand pieces. We can adjust the Forever Young BBL® hand-piece to target a variety of specific skin concerns:

  • Freckles and sun damage
  • Age spots
  • Blotchy patches of skin (red and brown)
  • Vascular lesions
  • Broken capillaries
  • Pigmented lesions
  • Skin firmness
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Fine lines
  • Remove unwanted hair (laser hair removal)

Your IPL™ & BBL® Treatment at Center for Plastic Surgery

Depending on the severity and scope of the skin condition being treated, treatment can last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. During your consultation, you’ll probably be scheduled for three to six treatments, scheduled at four to six-week intervals, but this can vary.

Preparations for this treatment are minimal. Be sure to arrive without makeup.

BBL® treatments are administered with a precision handpiece. Before beginning, the nurse will provide you with sunglasses for protection against the bright light. The sensation of the treatment itself has been described as similar to a small rubber band flicking your skin. Because the only skin being affected by the treatment is the superficial layer, this sensation fades soon after the treatment ends.

How Much Do IPL™ & BBL® Treatments Cost in the Washington, DC, Metro Area?

At CPS, IPL™ and BBL® treatments start at $95 and increase with the size and number of treatment areas, along with individual factors. You will be provided with a specific price quote when you come in for a consultation.

Results & Recovery

Because BBL® treatments are non-invasive, there is no downtime required and patients may return to normal activity immediately. There may be some redness or irritation in the treatment area, but this subsides quickly.

You don’t have to live with bothersome complexion flaws anymore. Contact us for a consultation to discuss the risks and benefits of BBL® photorejuvenation with our experienced skin care team at Center for Plastic Surgery.
