Bitar Institute Answering Your Most-Asked Breast Augmentation Questions

Choosing to undergo plastic surgery is a major decision, and you want to make that choice with confidence. The first thing many of our breast enhancement patients do is head to the internet to begin their research. There are plenty of online videos and blogs where patients share their experiences. However, sometimes it can be hard to find the answer to a specific question about breast augmentation or breast implants.

At our Washington, DC, area practice, we always want our patients to feel informed and confident before surgery. So, we’re answering some commonly asked questions about breast augmentation in this blog post.

How do I choose the right breast implants?

Choosing the right breast implants depends on several different factors. Implants are available in different materials—such as saline and silicone—as well as shapes, sizes, and profiles. During your consultation, we will help you select the size of your implants by placing trial implants in your bra. After you choose the best size for your goals, we will discuss your other implant details (such as incision location) and create a customized procedure for your needs.

Is breast augmentation painful?

Like any surgery, breast augmentation comes with a certain amount of discomfort. While you will be under general anesthesia for the procedure itself, you will wake up to some tightness and soreness in your chest area. We will give you a soft, elastic post-operative bra to wear for 3 weeks after treatment. Our practices also offer a pain protocol that substantially reduces post-operative pain and recovery time. You should feel back to your normal self a few weeks after surgery.

Can breast implants fix uneven breasts?

Yes, breast augmentation is one of the best ways to fix unevenly sized breasts. A slightly larger implant can be used in the smaller breast to balance out both breasts. In some cases, if a breast lift is involved, we can also remove excess tissue from the larger breast. Talk with your doctor to learn more about your options for correcting asymmetrical breasts.

How much does breast augmentation cost?

In the Washington, DC, area, the price of breast augmentation ranges from $5,925 to $8,000. This quote can change depending on the details of your surgery. Silicone gel implants, for example, typically cost more than saline implants. After your consultation, your doctor will provide you with an exact price for your procedure.

How long is recovery after breast augmentation?

Most patients can return to work 3 to 5 days after their surgery. Those with more physical jobs may wish to rest a full week before heading back to work. You can expect some swelling, bruising, and soreness during those first few post-op days. Get plenty of rest so your body can recuperate and get back to normal as soon as possible.
