Subfascial breast augmentation is an advanced technique that creates a space for the implant between the chest wall muscle and the thin layer of tissue covering the muscle called the fascia.

This woman in her 50’s underwent a breast reconstruction. Prosthetic breast reconstruction is typically done in two stages. During the first stage, the time of mastectomy, the plastic surgeon will place a temporary implant called a tissue expander. The tissue expander will slowly fill up over time and be replaced with a permanent implant during the secondary surgery.
