What Is Breast Conserving Surgery?

Breast-conserving surgery, sometimes called a lumpectomy or partial mastectomy, is a procedure that removes breast cancer while preserving as much of the natural breast as possible. Instead of removing the entire breast, only the tumor and a small margin of surrounding tissue are taken out. The goal is to treat the cancer effectively while maintaining your breast’s shape and appearance. For many women, this approach offers peace of mind, combining strong cancer control with a more natural-looking result.

Am I a Candidate for Breast Augmentation?

If you want to increase the size of your breasts, restore lost volume, improve breast symmetry, or create a more balanced figure overall, you may be a candidate for breast augmentation. Ideal breast augmentation candidates should also:
  • Be generally in good health
  • Not smoke or be willing to quit
  • Have realistic expectations for results

Some patients, especially those who are interested in breast enhancement after weight loss or pregnancy, require both an increase in breast size and shape as well as a rejuvenating lift. In these cases, our surgeons may recommend a combination procedure for breast augmentation with lift. During this procedure, your surgeon can remove excess skin and reposition the breast higher on the chest, along with enhancing the size of the breasts with an implant.

The best way to determine whether breast augmentation is right for you is to schedule a consultation with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons and work closely with them to discuss which options will best suit your needs.

What Are My Breast Augmentation Options?

If you’ve decided breast augmentation is right for you, there are still a number of decisions to be made, including the material, shape, and texture of your breast implants.

During your comprehensive breast augmentation consultation, one of our board-certified plastic surgeons will walk you through all of the options, discussing the best choice based on your goals and anatomy. But until then, some breast augmentation options include the following:

Breast Implant Types

Breast implant material is one of the first considerations for breast augmentation patients. Center for Plastic Surgery offers the following implants for your personalized breast augmentation.

Saline
Saline breast implants consist of a silicone outer shell that is filled with a saline solution. Saline breast implants can be filled with the solution after they are inserted into the breast pocket, allowing the surgeon to use smaller incisions than other implant types. If a saline breast implant ruptures, the body easily absorbs the solution. Saline implants are usually more cost-effective than other options, but they do run a higher risk of visible rippling and feel less like natural breast tissue.

Silicone
Silicone breast implants consist of a silicone outer shell that is pre-filled with a cohesive, medical-grade silicone. Because these are already filled, silicone implants require a larger incision than saline implants. Silicone implants are incredibly popular, as they feel and move more naturally, closely mimicking real breast tissue.

In addition to implant material, you will also need to choose the size of your implants, how far they extend from your chest or projection, and whether you want round or anatomically shaped breast implants. For more detailed information on your breast implant choices, you can review our breast implant option page here.

Breast Implant Placement

There are two placement options for breast implants: behind the breast gland or, more commonly, behind the pectoralis muscle under the breast. Your desired aesthetic, the amount of natural breast tissue you have, and your body type will all play a role in which placement option works best for you.

Over the Muscle Placement (Subglandular): Sublglandular placement is ideal for patients with a decent amount of natural breast tissue, as patients with little tissue or who are very thin may experience implant visibility. This placement option allows for less implant movement during physical exercise and quicker recovery, as fewer tissues are manipulated during surgery.

Under the Muscle Placement (Submuscular): When implants are placed under the muscle, they are typically covered better, reducing the risk of implant rippling or palpability (seeing or feeling the implant through the skin). This option also helps keep your glandular tissue fully visible during a mammogram, and the capsular contracture rate is lower as well. This option does require a slightly longer recovery, as your implants must settle over the course of multiple weeks up to a few months.

Breast Augmentation Incision Options

Incision placement is determined by your natural anatomy, where you would like your scars, the size and shape of your implants, and the recommendations of your surgeon. Center for Plastic Surgery offers the following options:

Inframammary: This incision runs horizontally across the natural fold of your breast, where the breast tissue meets the chest. The inframammary incision allows for larger implant sizes and is nearly undetectable after recovery.

Periareolar: This incision is made around the lower edge of the areola, where it is concealed by the darker pigmentation of the skin. This is suitable for patients who are most concerned with visible scarring, but it limits the size and material of implants.

Preservation Breast Augmentation

Preservation Breast Augmentation is a new advancement in the world of breast augmentation.  It is one of the most significant advancements we have seen in breast augmentation in decades.
So what exactly is it?  At Center for Plastic Surgery, we like think of it in three ways – a philosophy, a technique, and now a revolutionary new procedure called Preservé™.

The Philosophy

The idea of Preservation Breast Augmentation is that by understanding, appreciating, and having detailed knowledge of the structural elements of the breast, we can perform breast augmentation in a manner that preserves these structural elements.  This can lead to more natural and longer lasting outcomes along with fewer complications in breast augmentation.

The Technique

The first iteration of Preservation Breast Augmentation was to apply this philosophy to our current approach of breast augmentation with implant placement above the muscle.   Our surgeons at Center for Plastic Surgery were part of a group of the first aesthetic plastic surgeons in the country to be invited to the Motiva™ headquarters in Costa Rica to learn this innovative technique in 2024.  Upon our return, we began to use this technique in our patients.  In this approach, we take care to mark the circummammary ligaments of the breast and during our dissection of the pocket for the implants specific attention is paid to the preservation of these structures.

Preservé™

Preservé™ is the specific preservation breast augmentation procedure developed by Motiva™ which uses specially designed instrumentation and a further enhanced technique to perform preservation breast augmentation.  The procedure is performed with minimal anesthesia, minimal scarring, and has a minimal recovery.

The benefits of Preservé™ include:

  • Breast enhancement technique designed to preserve natural breast tissue
  • Less invasive procedure
  • Preserves natural breast tissue, breast functionality, nipple sensation and chest muscles
  • Designed to maintain the inner support structures of the breast and provides enhanced stability of the implant with long term results
  • Designed to create a precise pocket
  • Smaller scars (approximately 1 inch)
  • Procedure designed to be completed with minimal anesthesia
  • Quick recovery
  • Fast post procedure recovery
  • Custom breast enhancement
  • Achieve desired volume with smaller implants
  • Shaping the breast

What Is a Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation?

Using a patient’s own fat for breast enhancement is a technique that is sometimes called fat transfer breast augmentation and also minimally invasive or no-incision breast augmentation. While this technique is done in the operating room under anesthesia, it greatly reduces the surgical scar over breast augmentation with implants, it does involve extracting excess fat from another area of the body using liposuction, which is a surgical procedure.

The concept of using a patient’s own fat for cosmetic purposes (called autologous fat transfer) isn’t new. Fat has been used for years as an alternative to synthetic facial fillers and is part of the Brazilian Butt Lift procedure. The fat transfer breast augmentation technique can be performed with or without implants, depending on the patient’s goals.

Candidates for Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation

Ideal candidates for fat transfer breast augmentation:

  • Want only a modest increase in the size of their breasts (slightly more than one cup size)
  • Have enough fat in another area of the body
  • Have good skin elasticity

Other candidates may be interested in a breast augmentation that is more “natural,” as some patients dislike the idea of a foreign object in their bodies or fear a reaction to the materials in breast implants.

The Fat Transfer Breast Enhancement Procedure

The fat transfer technique involves three steps:

Liposuction: Common donor areas are the abdomen, thighs, or buttocks.

Purification: The fatty tissue is processed to separate the fat cells from impurities.

Re-injection: Surgeons use special syringes called cannulas to carefully place the fat in the breasts, creating a pleasing contour.

Hybrid Breast Augmentation

Patients who want a larger breast size may benefit from a combination breast enlargement, where the fat transfer technique is used if they have thin breast skin or decide to have their implants placed above the muscle. The fat creates a more natural-looking result by camouflaging the breast implants’ edges.

  • How Is a Breast Augmentation Performed?

Your Breast Augmentation Consultation

At Center for Plastic Surgery, a crucial step of any cosmetic procedure is a comprehensive consultation. When you meet with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons, you will be able to ask any questions you may have, discuss the risks and benefits of breast augmentation, and get a strong sense of what you can realistically expect from the procedure and its results.

Our top breast surgeons are highly trained and have decades of experience performing successful breast augmentations. All of the customizations and options you have to choose from may seem overwhelming, but rest assured that your plastic surgeon will walk you through the whole process and help you decide what works best for your goals and body type.

The pre-surgical meetings at CPS also focus on preparing you for your surgery; our physicians, nurses, and support staff advocate for our patients and assist them through the process. Our team strives to ensure the highest level of service and medical guidance in order to provide a safe surgical journey and deliver exceptional aesthetic results.

The Breast Augmentation Procedure

At CPS, each breast augmentation procedure is curated exactly to each patient and their needs. Your breast augmentation will look slightly different from someone else’s, but generally, you can expect the procedure to go as follows:

Breast augmentation with implants is usually performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia for your comfort and safety. On the day of surgery, your surgeon will mark the incision location that you have chosen. Once the board-certified anesthesiologist has administered the anesthesia, your surgeon will make careful incisions over the markings.

Depending on the nature of your surgical plan, your surgeon will create a space in the breasts for the breast implants, called a breast pocket. They will then place your implants into this space, ensuring they are positioned appropriately. Once your surgeon is satisfied with the results, they will carefully close the incisions, and you will be monitored as you wake up from anesthesia.

Once you are cleared to do so, you will be given aftercare instructions and sent home with a responsible driver.

A Reputation Built on Results

  • Dr. Albino did my reconstruction after my lumpectomy going on almost 5 years ago he was caring, compassionate and professional I would definitely recommend Dr Albino and look forward to seeing him in the future.

    Valerie LaRowe
  • Breast cancer is a scary, overwhelming diagnosis. Facing a lumpectomy, my breast surgeon recommended Dr. Rao as a top notch surgeon to perform a reduction. (I figured: I'm going through this terrible health experience, I might as well try to find a silver lining). I am incredibly thankful for Dr. Rao's expertise and for my results! I have had no complications, and appreciated his friendly, kind manner throughout. We talked about our kids, about education in a pandemic, and about my fondness for the gowns they have in their office! Highly recommended!

  • Dr Fleury is a great doctor. My wife just had breast cancer surgery with his help. Everything is perfect!

  • I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Albino and his entire team. After going through cancer treatment and everything that comes with it, having a surgeon you can completely trust makes an enormous difference. Dr. Albino has been exceptional every step of the way. From placing my tissue expanders after cancer to preparing for my upcoming reconstruction, his attention to detail is truly beyond measure. He is incredibly knowledgeable, professional, meticulous, and clearly takes tremendous pride in his work. But what makes him truly stand out is the way he treats his patients. His bedside manner is exceptional—he is compassionate, patient, attentive, and genuinely listens. He takes the time to explain everything thoroughly, answer every question, and make sure you feel comfortable and informed throughout the process. And his team is just as exceptional. Every member of his staff has been kind, caring, professional, responsive, and incredibly supportive. They consistently go above and beyond to make what can be an overwhelming and emotional experience feel easier and more manageable. You can tell that the compassion and excellence Dr. Albino brings to his patients is reflected throughout his entire team. I never feel rushed or like just another patient. I feel heard, cared for, and completely confident that I am in the best possible hands. His combination of surgical expertise, precision, professionalism, compassion, and an outstanding team is truly rare. I am incredibly grateful to have Dr. Albino as my surgeon and am looking forward to having him complete my reconstruction. I would recommend him and his team without hesitation to anyone looking for exceptional care. Dr. Albino and his team are, quite simply, exceptional beyond measure.

  • I saw Dr Fleury for a consultation for breast reconstruction and he was very kind, patient, supportive, and thorough in his explanations.

  • I came to Dr. Albino from another local surgeon, hoping to get a more encouraging second opinion after a double mastectomy and breast cancer treatment. Not only did I get an encouraging second opinion, my results are far greater than anything I expected. My reconstruction journey started with expanders, and for months I heard "you won't love your results but you'll be ok with them one day," and this was hard to grasp. I couldn't imagine looking in the mirror and seeing the remnants of cancer for the rest of my life. Dr. Albino gave me so much hope and optimism that I could be happy with my results. I had an implant and fat grafting revision with Dr. Albino almost 3 weeks ago, and I am thrilled with everything! Not only am I ok, I love the way I look. I feel like me again. I have recommended him to everyone I know, and cannot sing his praises enough. He is meticulous and professional, but has amazing bedside manner and true compassion for this difficult journey. The office staff is pleasant, and Heather has responded to about 80 emails from me without a single complaint. I am so grateful for this practice that gave me my confidence and my body back. If you have the opportunity to work with Dr. Albino I highly recommend him!

  • Dr. Fleury and all his team at CPS are truly wonderful. He performed reconstruction after a double mastectomy due to breast cancer and he is an amazing micro surgeon keeping all the transplanted sections alive and healthy even though I have diabetes. He worked with my insurance and helped fight them when they canceled coverage for the nerve graft the night before surgery. Erin, Cameron, Nina and really the whole office have always been so kind, sympathetic and knowledgeable. I have a new lease on life thanks to Dr Fleury and CPS.

  • Choosing Dr. Christopher Fleury as my plastic surgeon was one of the best decisions I made after my breast cancer diagnosis. From the very first appointment, he made me feel comfortable, and honestly, that mattered more than I could have imagined given everything else I was dealing with. He listens. Really listens. He took the time to understand what I wanted my reconstruction to look like instead of assuming he knew what was best for me. I wanted a natural result that stayed close to my original size, and every decision along the way reflected those conversations. Although I'm still in the middle of reconstruction, I already feel completely confident in where we're headed together. None of that would matter if he weren't exceptionally gifted technically, but he is. He performed my reconstruction after my double mastectomy, including tissue expander placement, ADM placement, and a nerve allograft. One of the biggest surprises was learning he could perform the nerve allograft. I hadn't even known that preserving the possibility of sensation was an option, and he took the time to explain both the potential benefits and the limitations honestly. Knowing I have a real chance of regaining sensation down the road is something I'll always be grateful for. What stood out just as much was how well he understood the cancer side of this, not just the plastic surgery side. When I asked about direct-to-implant reconstruction, he walked me through why it wasn't the right fit for me and why he recommended the expander approach instead. Rather than giving me a one-size-fits-all answer, he explained the reasoning behind every recommendation. That told me he was thinking about my long-term outcome, not just what was easiest. He also worked seamlessly with my breast surgeon, Dr. Bonnie Sun, and I can't overstate how reassuring it was to know they approached my treatment as a team. When you're facing cancer, that kind of collaboration matters. What really sets Dr. Fleury apart, though, is who he is as a person. He's warm, approachable, and has a calm confidence that puts you at ease even when you're overwhelmed. He greets me at every appointment with genuine enthusiasm and makes me feel like we're tackling this together. Those may seem like small things, but during one of the most difficult times of your life, they're anything but. You'll feel heard, respected, and genuinely cared for. There are many talented plastic surgeons. What makes Dr. Fleury exceptional is the rare combination of elite surgical skill, cutting-edge expertise, deep understanding of breast cancer reconstruction, genuine respect for his patients' goals, and extraordinary compassion. Those qualities don't always exist in the same physician, but they do in him. If you're facing breast reconstruction after a breast cancer diagnosis, I cannot recommend Dr. Fleury highly enough. I am incredibly grateful he's part of my team.

  • Dr. Fleury has the most amazing, down to-earth attitude and makes you feel comfortable from the moment you meet him. He spent a great deal of time talking with me about my upcoming reconstruction and DIEP flap surgery following my double mastectomy, answering my questions and making sure I understood my options. Although I haven’t had my surgery yet, I would highly recommend Dr. Fleury based on the compassion, professionalism, and genuine care he has shown me throughout this process I am beyond grateful to have found a surgeon who combines exceptional professionalism with genuine compassion.

  • I would like to thank Dr. Albino and his team for the wonderful work they did and do after my breast cancer reconstructive surgery! From the first visit everyone was so nice, respectful, loving and very professional! After my visits Dr. Albino himself took time out to reach out to me to see how I was doing. I really appreciated it because that's something you don't see often. Thanks again!

  • I had a great experience working with Dr. Rao for my bilateral mastectomy with DIEP flap reconstruction. From beginning to end Dr. Rao and his team were very honest, patient, and kind, and performed at the highest level. I’m really pleased with the outcome, and feel like myself again! I would definitely recommend him and his practice to other women going through the same journey.

  • I have worked for several plastic surgeons previously and I loved seeing Dr. Albino for a consultation for my breast reconstruction. He has excellent bedside manner, explained things in a way that made sense to both my husband and myself. His office is modern and comfortable. • Making the difficult decision of having a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy was one of the toughest decisions of my life. The idea of a mastectomy felt like a loss but one of my first-degree relatives was diagnosed with breast cancer and family history research revealed my risk was high so I knew I had to move quickly. However, the uncertainty of what I would look like after the surgery was extremely stressful. I consider myself a strong woman so it was difficult to admit to myself that no matter how strong I thought I could be, the results of a reconstruction had the potential to affect my self-esteem & self-confidence for the rest of my life. I had a fantastic breast surgeon but was concerned about who to use for the breast reconstruction. My breast surgeon referred me to Dr. Albino, a plastic surgeon that specializes in post-mastectomy breast reconstruction. Dr. Albino and his team created a calm and confident space. During the initial consultation, he explained all of my reconstruction options. Each question was answered and I never felt rushed to make any decision. I was shown before-and-after photos so I had an idea of what to expect. The approach felt like collaboration, with my emotional well-being and desired outcome at the forefront. The results were life-changing for me. I consider Dr. Albino’s work to be artistic. The new breasts are beautifully shaped and symmetrical. They also feel natural. The scars from the mastectomy and reconstruction surgeries are well-hidden. The compassionate care made a difference. The staff was kind, attentive, and reassuring. This surgery was about regaining confidence and feeling whole again. Dr. Albino gave me a new beginning. His brilliance, talent, and compassionate heart are appreciated. I highly recommended Dr. Albino to anyone facing this journey.

  • I’ve been a reconstruction patient of Dr Rao’s for three years and I cannot say enough about the level of care, concern, and attention I have received from the beginning. From the helpful front office staff, nurses who balance compassion with knowledge and professionalism, and always have a warm smile and uplifting spirit, to his PA and even on call partner providers, to Dr Rao himself. All top notch and the only team I’d trust with my reconstruction care.

  • Following a breast cancer diagnosis, I was looking for a good plastic surgeon to take care of the breast reconstruction after my double mastectomy. Dr. Fleury came highly recommended. On my initial meeting with Dr. Fleury and his team, I immediately felt at ease. Dr. Fleury answered all my questions with precision and took the time to describe, in detail, all the steps that were ahead of us. He and his staff behaved in a professional manner, were encouraging and showed compassion. I am now awaiting my breast reconstruction, which will take place in a couple of months. I am confident in Dr. Fleury’s skills and good quality care.

  • I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Kanuri for my breast reconstruction after my mastectomy. He was very thoughtful and thorough with all the procedures. His staff was also staff was also very informative and knowledgeable. They provided guidance every step of the way. I’m very thankful for him and the staff.

  • What started as a possible breast reduction surgical procedure to help with chronic back pain sadly became more complicated. I learned that I carry an unknown genetic mutation increasing my risk for breast, ovarian, and pancreatic cancers. I went from interviewing doctors to hiring one. After multiple consultations around the DC & Northern VA areas, I felt certain in my choice. For anyone facing a similarly complex and emotional decision, I would strongly recommend considering Dr. Frank Albino. What ultimately helped me make a decision was speaking with a few recently retired operating room nurses I knew that worked where my consultants practiced. Although they had not worked directly with my choices, they remained connected to colleagues who had. When asked who they would see for a reconstruction post-mastectomy, the response was 100% consistent and immediate: Dr. Albino. He was described as respectful, exceptionally skilled, highly educated, efficient, and—most notably—deeply kind. After meeting him myself, I found those descriptions to be entirely accurate. Dr. Albino is transparent, supportive, reassuring, and empathetic. He has a remarkable ability to take complex, fragmented information and synthesize it into a clear and thoughtful plan. His approach is both analytical and compassionate. In comparison to other offices, his stood out for its responsiveness. Calls were returned promptly, and communication was reliable. I’m indebted to Heather, Niya, Cameron, and many others for their continued guidance and compassion. The office was in constant communication through the entire process to make sure nothing was missed, especially with all my many questions and concerns. The act of scheduling the plastic surgeon, oncology surgeon, hospital, operating room, handling the insurance company, paperwork, pre-op & post-op exams and more went very smoothly on my end BECAUSE of them. I am so very grateful. Lastly, after meeting with the oncology surgeon, she was very happy to know that she would be working alongside Dr Albino. That approval solidified my heart and mind even more, if possible. Thank you, Dr Albino and THE Center for Plastic Surgery.

  • I’ve had issues with my radiated breast from breast cancer for years (capsule contraction) and several surgeries later, I may have finally found a doctor that knows what he’s doing. I just had a tissue expander put in 2 weeks ago and everything went great! I will be getting a diep flap in a couple of months and judging from the pictures on his site, I have nothing to worry about

  • I was scared and vulnerable before I met Dr. Fleury but he became a true light in my life. He didn’t just operate on me; he cared for me as a whole person, with patience, gentleness, and genuine compassion. He takes time to explain every step, answer every question, and he never makes me feel rushed or alone in this process. His staff is outstanding—warm, supportive, and always going out of their way to make me feel comfortable the moment I walk in. I am deeply grateful to have him and his team walking beside me through this chapter. I would recommend Dr. Fleury to anyone facing breast surgery reconstruction; he is an outstanding surgeon and one of the most amazing people I have ever met.

  • I met Dr. Fleury after having a complete mastectomy due to an aggressive form of cancer. I had a consult for reconstruction that I was still unsure I wanted. Dr. Fleury was very thorough in explaining all of my options. I eventually decided on the type of reconstruction I would have and again Dr. Fleury told me if I decided I didn't want to do it I could cancel the night before. I felt no pressure to have the reconstruction which in a way was incredibly helpful because I knew I had an out if needed. I had my reconstruction in August. Dr. Fleury was incredibly kind and understanding about all of my concerns and addressed them fully. The first surgery was successful. He gave me back what cancer took from me. I had a revision in March to clean up the area a bit, which is pretty normal after the first surgery is done to see how things look. Again Dr. Fleury was amazing. He asked what I wanted to fix and added what his thoughts were on some issues I hadn't thought of. Dr. Fleury gave me back my life in many ways.I feel like I am whole again. No more surgeries. I no longer feel embarrassed about how I look and see that I look pretty normal again. I look good in my clothes again and am not isolating and trying to hide what I look like. It is with deep and heartfelt thanks I give to Dr. Fleury who has been there for my entire reconstructive journey. Cancer doesn't just stop after you are declared cancer free and Dr. Fleury understood that. My husband and I thank him from the bottom of our hearts for putting me back together.

What Can I Expect From Rapid Recovery Breast Augmentation?

The Center for Plastic Surgery proudly offers patients rapid recovery breast augmentation. This means we use the latest surgical techniques, anesthesia, implant massage, and postoperative pain protocols in order to minimize recovery times and optimize results. We want patients to move their arms and shoulders lightly starting the day of surgery, soon after the procedure.

Immediately following your breast augmentation, expect some swelling, bruising, and possible discomfort. You will be sent home with a soft compression dressing and post-op instructions that are specific to your surgical procedure. To minimize swelling, keep yourself elevated or propped up with pillows when you sleep.

Each patient is different, so be sure to follow your aftercare instructions closely. They will include information about how to care for your incisions, implant massages, and walking to avoid blood clots.

You will also need a post-op surgical bra, which helps to support your healing breasts and minimize swelling. This should be worn day and night, except while showering, for three weeks. After the surgical bra, you can transition to a supportive sports bra and, finally, the bra of your choice.

Throughout your healing process, be sure to monitor your incisions and reach out to your surgeon if you have any questions or concerns. Your incisions should heal enough to swim and bathe after about three to four weeks and should be fully healed after about two to three months. The ultimate outcome of your scarring, characterized by slender, faint, and level incisions, might require six months to a year to fully heal

Rapid Recovery Breast Augmentation Timeline

There is always some variation in breast augmentation recovery, as each patient and surgical plan is different, but a general rapid recovery timeline is as follows:

  • Arm and shoulder exercises

  • Resume low-impact exercise
Month Two
  • Resume strenuous exercise
  • Ready to sleep on your side
  • Implants settle (drop and fluff)
Month Three and Beyond
  • Final results

Breast Augmentation Frequently Asked Questions

Is breast augmentation safe?

When performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon on a carefully screened patient, breast augmentation is considered a safe elective procedure.

How long do breast implants last?

There is no set expiration date for breast implants. However, they are not designed to last a lifetime. At some point, you will most likely need to replace them, although they usually last between 10-15 years. In the years following your initial breast augmentation surgery, you should continue to have routine mammograms and annual check-ins with your plastic surgeon to monitor the implants.

Is it normal to have nipple pain after breast augmentation?

In addition to breast soreness, many patients experience unusual sensations in one or both nipples after breast augmentation, such as tenderness, shooting pain, and increased or decreased sensitivity. These side effects are normal and typically temporary, caused by impact to nerves during the surgery. Contact our office if you have concerns about nipple sensations.

Can I breastfeed with implants?

It is perfectly safe to breastfeed with breast implants. However, the size and placement of your implants may impact your ability to do so. If you hope to breastfeed in the future, be sure to let your surgeon know so they can avoid affecting the milk ducts when performing your surgery and can advise you on the optimal implant choices.
